What this data means

Reading this record

Everything above comes from two different AIS transmissions. Position, speed, course and heading arrive in message 1, 2 or 3, broadcast every few seconds while under way — that is why the position age above can be very small. Name, MMSI, IMO number, call sign, type and dimensions arrive in a separate static report — message 5 for a Class A transponder, message 24 for Class B — sent only around once every six minutes. A vessel can therefore show a fresh position with an old or missing static report, or the reverse.

Nothing here is estimated, interpolated, or carried over from a previous ship at the same MMSI. Where the vessel did not transmit a field, or transmitted a value the standard defines as "not available", we print “Not reported” rather than guess.

Data for this page comes from AISStream.io under Free for any use. Field meanings are explained in the reference guides. Nothing on this page is derived, estimated or filled in — where a field is empty, we print “Not reported”.
