The information on this site must not be used for navigation, collision avoidance, or any other safety-critical purpose.
It is republished from public AIS broadcasts and is incomplete, delayed, and sometimes wrong. Vessels may be absent because they are out of receiver range, because their equipment is off or faulty, because the feed provider filtered them, or because our own systems failed. A vessel shown here may not be where it appears. A vessel not shown here may be directly ahead of you.
Navigate using properly certified equipment, official charts, and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.
What this site is
MarineActivity republishes openly licensed AIS data and explains what it means. It is an informational and educational resource. It is not an official source, not a vessel traffic service, and not affiliated with any maritime authority.
Accuracy
We take care to represent the underlying data honestly — every position carries its source and its age, and unreported fields are shown as unreported rather than guessed. We cannot warrant that the data itself is accurate, because we do not produce it. It is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind.
Acceptable use
You may read, link to and quote this site freely. You may not:
- Use it for navigation or any safety-of-life purpose (see above).
- Use it to harass, stalk, or surveil any individual. This is public commercial maritime data and it is published as such.
- Scrape it at a volume that degrades service for others. If you want the data in bulk, go to the upstream providers listed on thesources page — they publish it openly and will serve you better than we will.
- Present the data as your own original source, or strip its attribution.
Third-party data and licences
AIS data is provided by the sources named on thesources page, under their own licences, and those licences travel with the data. Our own text, design and code are ours.
