AIS message type
AIS message type 2: Position report, assigned schedule (Class A)
Same content as type 1, sent on a reporting rate assigned by a base station. What type 2 carries, who sends it, how often, and how to read it.
What type 2 is
Type 2 has exactly the layout of type 1. The difference is who chose the schedule: a coast station used an assignment command to tell the ship when and how often to report, usually so that a busy waterway gets a predictable load. A ship under assigned mode sends type 2 instead of type 1.
How to read it
You will see far fewer of these than type 1. Treat a type 2 as a type 1 for every field; the only extra information is that a shore station is managing that ship's reporting rate.
Field layout
Bit offsets are counted from zero at the first bit of the decoded payload. Type 2 uses the same layout as type 1.
